The “marinera” is an elegant Peruvian dance that involves a lot of flirting, specific dance steps and particular clothing. For example, the woman dancing a “marinera” will oftentimes be wearing an intricate Moche lace dress. In this work, although inspired by the various elements that make up the “marinera,” Zúñiga does not cite a particular customary melody, nor does he intend this piece to accompany dancers.
This work was premiered by Nicaulis Alliey on September 15, 2018 at the Kalos Music & Art School in Aventura, Florida.
