Trio for soprano (A3 to F5), oboe d'amore and piano.
Grade 4-5. Approx. duration: ten minutes.
Set includes a score, piano/vocal score and one part.
In “The Quest,” poet Aleister Crowley searches for hidden knowledge that is finally revealed only after the poet attains a state of selflessness. In Walker’s setting, he attempts to match the poet’s odyssey in a number of different ways, but mainly, the manner in which the soprano is accompanied was chosen in order to represent the poet’s frustrated search. The work concludes with material derived from its opening, but now, all three participants, soprano, oboe d’amore and piano, are, for the first time, in complete harmony. The union of these elements represents the poet’s ultimately successful path towards enlightenment.
Ariana Wyatt, soprano; John L. Walker, oboe d'amore; Erica Sipes, piano.
