Duet for clarinet and percussion.
Grade 6. Approx. duration: ten minutes.
Set consists of two performance scores.
This duet was premiered by Justus Matthews, clarinet and David Gerhart, percussion, at California State University at Long Beach, probably not long after it was composed in 1995.
Two years later, it was performed by the New York New Music Ensemble while this group was on the campus of the aforementioned university during its CSU Summer Arts program. Writing in the “Los Angeles Times,” Timothy Morgan, noting its syncretic combination of local and universal influences, said, “Adriana Verdie de Vas Romero hit on the happy instrumental combination of clarinet and percussion in her ‘Kvarildanzal,’ a lively, slippery, sometimes insinuating, sometimes shrieking mix of Argentine dance and modernistic doodling.”
