Nearly a quarter century separates the two songs in this collection of art songs by Peruvian composer José María Valle Riestra. The first was composed while Valle Riestra was completing his musical training in France; the second came after the artistic success of two operas, a zarzuela and a requiem mass. Nevertheless, both songs reveal the composer‘s careful attention to each text, and the manner in which these helped to shape the musical details that enhance each song.
