Solo piece in four movements for unaccompanied guitar.
Grade 6. Approx. duration: ten and a half minutes.
Set consists of a performance score.
Silva was interviewed in 2014 by Alvaro Gallegos, who asked the former about a number of his recent compositions. Silva related that his “Suite Andina” was composed while he was in Peru receiving some lessons from Peruvian composer Celso Garrido-Lecca. Because the two were analyzing Garrido-Lecca’s music for guitar and charango, Silva thought it a good opportunity to write a piece for guitar while under Garrido-Lecca’s guidance. Silva went on to say that although his suite was composed in Peru, it isn’t intended as an exploration of the Peruvian guitar; rather, he uses the work as a reflection of his sonic impressions while in Peru, and also, his feelings about returning to his native Chile.
Ignacio Barra, guitar.
