Solo piece for piano.
Grade 5. Approx. duration: eight and a half minutes.
Set consists of a performance score.
In the extreme northern part of Chile, surrounding the city of La Tirana, is an area known as “La pampa,” which in turn is part of the Atacama Desert. Due to the exceedingly dry conditions that characterize this region, over time the colorful paper flowers that typically decorate the cemeteries in the pampas slowly fade away. Inspired by this gradual change, in “Flores de papel” Silva explores how the timbre of the piano can be manipulated, so as to resemble the kaleidoscopic appearance of the cemetery flowers that he observed while visiting La pampa in 2012.
This work was premiered by Jorge Pepi-Alos at the Isidora Zegers Hall in Santiago, Chile, on January 15, 2013.
Jorge Pepi-Alos, piano.
