The seventy-five years from about the last quarter of the 19th century to about the middle of the 20th are of particular importance as a period of transformation that manifested itself on a number of different levels, thus laying the foundation for the Latin American art song of the modern period.
Nevertheless, during these same seventy-five years Latin America’s composers produced art songs that reveal a surprisingly broad range of styles.
In this set, we bring you seven of some of the most representative examples of Latin American art song during the period from about 1875 to 1950.
Contents:
Teresa Carreño (VEN), Barcarola
Blanca Estrella (VEN), Soledad
Reynaldo Hahn (VEN), J'ai caché dans la rose en pleurs
Estanislao Mejía (MEX), Elegía de las lágrimas
Henrique Oswald (BRA), Ave!
Domingo Santa Cruz (CHI), Pensées poétiques no. 2
