This is one of the at least eleven pieces that Plaza wrote during 1951, which was a particularly prolific year for the Venezuelan composer. Both its many arpeggios, and its title, which means “bugle call” in Spanish, are both suggestive of the possible inspiration for this work. His biographer, Marie Elizabeth Labonville, also notes that its harmonic language is polytonal, in which “as many as three simultaneous keys are present.”
