Saxophone quartet.
Grade 4. Approx. duration: five and a half minutes.
Set includes a score and four parts.
“Silvestres” is an evocative work from the Venezuelan coast that reveals the sort of fresh and new—but at the same time, syncretic—language that is characteristic of Pérez Valero’s music. Each of the three movements of this piece is named after commonly found trees in Venezuela, which in turn represent condensed elements of Venezuelan society translated into music. For example, the second movement, “Camoruco,” is a lullaby inspired by the “mantuanas,” which are songs of Spanish origin that mothers sing to their recently-born children.
