Duet for flute and guitar.
Grade 3. Approx. duration: slightly less than four minutes.
Set includes a performance score for guitar plus a flute part.
A kind of tapir known vulgarly as the danta inhabits an area that encompasses nearly the entire South American continent. The danta habitually eats plants, fruits and seeds while moving rapidly through the forest floor in such a manner that it has been characterized as a game. In Venezuela, the danta is strongly associated with María Lionza, who is an indigenous mystical deity of Venezuelan folklore. A famous statue of Lionza in Caracas shows her over a danta that has its paws over a pair of serpents that represent jealousy and egotism.
In this piece Pérez Valero seeks to recreate the danta's game through the use of a light melody in the flute over suspended ninth chords in the guitar.
