We received word from the following Cayambis composers and artists about their recent activities.
The Virginia Tech Board of Visitors has conferred the title of emeritus on Kent Holliday, professor of music in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences. In addition, Kent’s work, Incantations from the Popul Vuh was performed at the Covington Center at Radford University by British pianist Martin Jones on Sunday, November 12. His recording of that piece plus his Piano Sonata No. 3 will be released next fall on the MahinMedia Label.
The CD “Colors Couleurs Colores Cores” was released last month on Becsta Records. Quoting Sentinal Source reporter Jessica Richard, Rebecca Hartka (cello), Jose Lezcano (guitar) and Barbara Lysakowski (piano) “found inspiration in one another … to radiate a common theme: color.” The CD was released in Greenfield, MA on November 3 and on November 12 in West Newton, MA. This album marks the premiere recording Lezcano’s Sonata for cello and guitar.
Jose also reports that he just premiered a new work for guitar and string quartet that pays homage to Cuban dance rhythms of the 1950s. Performing with Jose and members of the Portland Chamber Music Festival were Jennifer Elowitch and Heidi Braun-Hill, violins; Mark Berger, viola; and Rhonda Rider, cello.
On behalf of the Chicago Choro Club, Cayambis artist Julie Koidin would like to extend an invitation to attend the last roda de choro of 2017, which will be held on November 19 from 11:45am to 1:00pm at the Musical Offering, in Evanston, Illinois.
This next Wednesday the pre world premiere of Sonata-Suite Bipolar by Luis Ernesto Gómez will be held as part of the closing event of the First Guitar Festival at the Simon Bolivar University in Caracas, Venezuela. Earlier on that same day, Luis will also be leading a conference on music research that focuses on the performer at the university library.
O Sol by Alexandre Travassos, a cantata for youth orchestra and choir based on a poem by Olavo Bilac will be premiered on November 25 by the Municipal Youth Orchestra and Choir under the direction of Daniel Cornejo at the Praça das Artes in São Paulo, Brazil.
Luis Pérez Valero reports that his article on Deleuze is scheduled to published in the first edition of the Journal of Research on the Arts in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
