We received word from the following Cayambis composers and artists about their recent activities.

Last week, the Sixth International Classical Guitar Festival took place in Santiago, Chile, for which Federico Núñez was part of the team of organizers. Next week, Federico will be back in Argentina, where he will be serving as the artistic director for the Fifth International Guitar Festival and Competition, which will take place October 5-8 in Buenos Aires.

This past Saturday, Sadiel Cuentas led a round-table discussion on contemporary and historic musical tendencies and the challenges around artistic education in Peru. The event was held at the Goethe Institute in Lima. Sadiel is in the middle of the photo below. (We don’t know who the other people are).

Next week, on September 30, the Young Municipal Symphonic Orchestra of São Paulo will be playing Alexandre Travassos’s work, Salmodia, which is a short, prayer-like piece written for student orchestra.

Pianist Kimberly Davis will be performing a solo recital on October 8 at the Roselle Public Library entitled, “Mozart and the Enlightenment.” In addition to Mozart, she will also be interpreting pieces by Soler, Haydn, Beethoven and Schubert.
