On April 10 last month, Sadiel Cuentas was interviewed by Carlos Hernando Castro, who is the moderator of the television program, “La Cartelera,” which airs on KORA RTV in Lima, Peru.


The two discussed Sadiel’s career as a composer, and especially about his chamber opera, Post Mortem, and his concerto for violin.

In Ecuador, on April 19 the National Assembly honored Jannet Alvarado by bestowing on her the “Dra. Matilde Hidalgo de Prócel” medal for her contributions to art and culture in that country. She was also honored the following week, on April 25, by the University Council of the University of Cuenca.

In the Xochipilli Auditorium of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, on April 27 the ensemble, CEPROMUSIC, premiered Soumaya, by Nicolás Esteban Hernández.



Alvaro Ponce de León wrote to let us know that his group, “Perú 70,” recently recorded a CD of music that combines elements of funk and jazz, along with Afro-Peruvian rhythms. Prior to the disk’s expected launch date in August, the group will be putting out two singles that will be available on a number of virtual platforms.

Infijos, for guitar, by Nicolás Kliwadenko, has been programmed by Chile’s National Association of Composers for its 2017 cycle of concerts. The work will be presented by Diego Castro Magas on May 8 in the “América” Hall of the National Library.

Pianist Walter Aparicio will be performing a recital on May 12 at PianoForte Studios in Chicago, Illinois. The program will include works by Eduardo Caba, Humberto Iporre Salinas and Marvin Sandi.

Finally, this month Federico Núñez will be performing as part of the Spanish and Argentine Music Cycle that will be held on May 27 in the principal salon of the Spanish Association of Formosa in Formosa, Argentina.
