After spending three weeks in Ecuador, Federico Núñez recently returned to his native Argentina. While in Ecuador he investigated evidence pertaining to the pre-Conquest music of the Chorrera and Bahía cultures (from around 500 BC), such as statuettes, whistles and pottery, that are held in several Ecuadorean museums. Quite possibly he saw items such as the Chorerra whistling bottle, pictured to the right.
Fernando Oliveira reports that he has started to work in collaboration with the Brazilian group, Duo Oblíquo, on a piece for two guitars that will be premiered later this year.

On March 30, flutist Isaac Granja performed Luis Pérez Valero’s work, “Hittova” on a recital of chamber music that was held in the auditorium of the daily newspaper, “El Carabobeño,” in Naguanagua, Venezuela.
The Khemia Ensemble, one of our affiliated ensembles, performed on April 10 at the Clifton Cultural Arts Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Normally, it would be enough to report that on April 17 Luis Pérez Valero conducted the Symphony Orchestra of Carabobo in a program of works by Rossini, Leo Brouwer and Venezuelan composer Pedro Mauricio González. But there’s more to the story: Even though the lights went out during the event, Luis kept conducting, and the musicians continued to play!
Tomorrow, on April 22, violinist Yury Revich will be premiering “Promenade III,” which was composed for him by Angel Hernández. The performance will take place in the auditorium of the Altes Rathaus in Vienna.
