Nicolás Hernández
One of the most promising composers of his generation, Colombian Nicolás Hernández (1991-) holds a degree in music from the Universidad Industrial de Santander. In addition to composition studies with Dr. Manuel Mejía, Nicolás has studied guitar with Oscar González. In 2014 Nicolás travelled to the Wintergreen Summer Music Festival in Virginia, where his “Mariposas Amarillas,” was premiered. Also that year, Nicolás was recognized during the “Plataforma 28” convocation, that was sponsored by the National Association of Symphonic Music and the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia, by a read-through of his orchestral work, “La Puerta.”
Hernández’s works are characterized by an atonal language that is colored on various occasions by the folkloric elements of his native country. His catalog of works includes pieces for the piano and for solo guitar, as well as chamber and orchestral compositions.
