Since we don’t have a staff of hundreds (or even dozens), our music production was slowed down a little bit this month by having attended two conventions, one in Washington, DC, and the other in Columbia, South Carolina. Nevertheless, we maintained a pretty good pace and finished six titles, which represent an interesting mix of small pieces for soloists and chamber ensembles, as well as a work for string orchestra.
Particularly, we’d like to call your attention to a rarity in Latin American music, which is Sadiel Cuentas’ Andean duets for two bassoons. Although works for double reed instruments are not very abundant in Latin America, we are pleased to be able to offer a piece that not only would make a very worthy addition to a recital program, but also represents great pedagogical value, insofar as it could be used very effectively by a teacher—alongside an intermediate or advanced student—for educational purposes. For more information about this, we invite you to check out the product description for this piece.
This being said, it would be really, really remiss of us to neglect to mention that this month’s collection of new works includes two compositions for saxophone. Even more so than the oboe and bassoon, music for the saxophone has gone largely and universally uncultivated in Latin America. However, by working closely with our composers we are slowly but surely adding high quality works to this instrument’s repertoire.
