The Revolt (La revuelta) is a theme with variations on a 19th century Venezuelan salon waltz by composer Federico Villena. Rather than presenting the theme at the beginning, which is the customary approach to this genre, the theme is heard at the end of the work, as if a coda, and produces a surprising effect on the audience. Originally conceived for flute and piano, this version for oboe and piano was premiered in 2007 at a Latin American music festival by Jaime Martínez, oboe and Elizabeth Guerrero.
