Solo for tuba with piano accompaniment.
Grade 5. Approx. duration: nine minutes.
Set includes a piano score and one part.
This work is inspired by the concerto for tuba by Ralph Vaughan Williams, the first known composition for solo tuba and orchestra. It is structured as a single movement with three distinct parts, in which passages full of rhythmic vitality alternate with others that are solemn and serious, as well as several cadenzas. The nocturnal and restless atmosphere to which the title alludes is achieved by exploiting the broad register of the instrument and its particularly dark and threatening timbre. Important composers have written for tuba, including Hindemith, Penderecki and John Williams, but compositions for tuba written by Latin American composers are not abundant. “Noche inquieta” aims to be a small contribution to the repertoire for this wonderful instrument on the South American continent.
