Unaccompanied piccolo.
Grade 4+. Approx. duration: two and a half minutes.
Set consists of a performance score.
This piece for solo piccolo is inspired in two folkloric genres: the tonada, cultivated in Spain and in several countries in Latin America; and the joropo, which is a typical dance of the Colombian-Venezuelan plains. The Venezuelan tonada, in particular, is used as a work song in peasant tasks, hence the adjective “rustic,” while the joropo is a dance of festive nature. The combination of the musical essence of these two genres, peasant labor and celebration, together with the use of the technical and expressive resources of the piccolo in its different genres, constitute a very attractive characteristic of this work.
Mariaceli Navarro Salerno, piccolo.
