Solo for unaccompanied tuba.
Grade 5. Approx. duration: a little more than 13 minutes.
Set consists of a performance score.
Composed in 2018, this work was commissioned by Chilean tubist Herman Morales, who is one of the composer’s colleagues and is also a co-founder of the brass quintet, Serena Brass. Morales told the composer that he has a Maine Coon (the largest domesticated cat breed) which has the unusual habit of going into a state of frenzy just before going to sleep.
Inspired by the idea of a frenetic cat, Herrera created a work that contrasts turbulent sections with others that are calmer in nature, as a way to musically reflect the character of his colleague’s pet.
