Composed in 2004, “Mamba” is based on a succession of fifths and augmented fourths that appears in ascending and descending form throughout the work. Since this also creates very sinuous melodic gestures and a mysterious atmosphere, the composer was reminded of French painter Henri Rousseau’s famous painting, “The Snake Charmer,” which inspired the title of the composition.
