Duet for oboe and percussion.
Grade 6. Approx. duration: six minutes.
Set consists of two performance scores.
Based on the rhythms of the “baguala,” a type of folk music heard in northeastern Argentina, “Umbra Sonora” develops within the context of a timbric/sonorous complex made up by the oboe, timpani and Tam-Tam. The baguala rhythms emerges from the chords and melodies sung by the timpani in its low register. Both instrumentalists develop a rich palette of extended techniques on their instruments that bring to the work a constant variety of textures, and in doing so generate the sonorous threshold to which the title refers.
Composed in 2009.
