This piece is part of a Mexican trilogy for unaccompanied flute (see “Related Products” below) that is dedicated to Ana Ligia Mastruzzo. “Kuikatl,” composed for bass flute in 2021, was writeen in memory of Argentine composer Gerardo Gandini and is dedicated to flutist Ana Ligia Mastruzzo. Regarding the other two works, “Quetzali” is for unaccompanied piccolo, and “Coyolyantototl” is for flute, a double pre-Hispanic flute made from ceramic and a recited text in Nahuatl.
In English, the Nahuatl word “quetzali” can have two meanings: “the woman who was born to be beautiful,” or, “feather.”
