This chamber song was commissioned in 2011 by the MAC Ensemble of Brisbane, Australia. The song is a setting of Dirie‘s poem, “Overwintering,” in which he offers a personal perspective on a Rilke poem, “Be ahead of all leaving,” from XIII of Sonnets to Orpheus.
This piece was a finalist in the 2018 National Flute Association Newly Published Music Competition in the “Mixed Ensembles” category.
