The specific texts chosen for this work reflect sophistication of both sonority and meaning, and come from the Apurímac region of central Peru and were originally gathered by Peruvian author and anthropologist José María Aguedas (1911-69). Known as Chanka Quechua, the language spoken there is particular to that region (and differs slightly from the more commonly-known Cuzco Quechua).
