Duet for oboe and bassoon.
Grade 4. Approx. duration: five and a half minutes.
Set consists of one performance score.
The Sanjuans are characteristic dances of the Inti Raymi, the most important festival of the Quechua world in the Andes, that celebrates the corn harvest, coincides with the summer soltice and the Catholic festivities of St. John (hence its name). They constitute a generic complex, so, except for a functional and structural similarity, throughout the mountainous region one finds a large diversity in the manner of performing these dances as they relate to tempo, character and the structural rhythmic base. This holds true whether in rural areas or in cities where the contributions of mestizo people have also given them a certain identity. This work attempts to synthesize various manners, both of indigenous and mestizo people, to create a Sanjuan.
