Duet for two oboes.
Grade 3. Approx. duration: five and a half minutes.
Set consists of one performance score.
“Mishu” is a somewhat pejorative term by which the Quechua-speaking people of the Ecuadorian highlands refer to someone who is a “mestizo,” that is, a person of mixed Spanish and indigenous descent. This work pretends to be a sonorous summary that is, at the same time, both proud and ashamed of its indigenous origin in a world that has always demanded recognition as white but that has recently started to assume its own mestizo identity. Formally, the work consists of a modal introduction with a pastoral air from which dances were developed from white indigenous sources that were grouped in the manner of a suite, with a similar thematic treatment, in order to then conclude with a recapitulation of the theme first heard in the introduction.
