Solo for unaccompanied bassoon.
Grade 4. Approx. duration: five minutes.
Set includes a performance score.
This work for unaccompanied bassoon was composed in order to explore the possibility of alternating different languages, such as tonality, atonality and modal fragments, as a way to test the coherence of a musical style regardless of its harmonic fundamentals, while at the same time exploiting the expressive value of silence as a musical resource. Among the repetitions of brief arpeggiated motives in g and e minor, different tonal and atonal fragments are alternated as a way to establish G as the “tonic,” in spite of the apparent incoherence of the various languages that are being used.
