Solo for violin with piano accompaniment.
Grade 5. Approx. duration: 14 and a half minutes.
Set includes a piano score and one part.
Amemgual composed this sonata while he was in the United States during the early 1940s. The work was premiered on May 22, 1944, in Santiago, Chile, by Alfredo Wang, who was accompanied at the piano by the composer.
Prior to leaving for the US in 1943, Amengual’s style had already begun to move away from the impressionism that characterizes his earlier works. The violin sonata reveals a new tendency towards neo-Classicism within the context of a freer approach to tonality.
René Amengual, Sonata for Violin and Piano, I, Moderato.
