Quartet for soprano (G#4-F5), violin, cello and piano.
Grade 5. Approx. duration: three minutes.
Set includes a performance score, vocal score and two parts.
This work is a setting of the text, “Piratería,” by Roy Sigüenza (1958-). The musical form bears a close relationship to the text, and is used by the composer as a desperate and erotic exclamation to get to where her beloved is. In this sense the work makes use of an insistent rhythmic instrumental introduction that gives no time for circumspection. The soprano cuts the introduction short by singing the text almost as if it were a scream and then incorporates herself within the instrumental texture until reaching a lyrical climax that returns to the same state of rhythmic despair heard at the beginning.
The piece was premiered in Cuenca in the auditorium of the Banco Central del Ecuador in 1997.
