The work Sertonâncias No. 4 was composed in 2013. It belongs to a series of works, each written for a different instrumental formation, from solo instrument to orchestra. The title of the series is an homage to the "sertão", a region with an arid climate, located mainly in northeastern Brazil. The work is divided into three movements. Melodic structures are organized based on the chromatic scale and the harmonic scale. The harmonic scale is used starting from the notes C (C-D-E-F#-G-Ab-Bb-B-C), D and F. The chromatic scale occurs as free chromaticism and also as a series of twelve tones: C-F-Eb-B-E-D-C#-F#-G#-G-Bb-A.
