This grade two composition from Nicaragua describes a hiking expedition on the Momotombo volcano, which is along the shores of Lago de Managua. The mountain is symmetrical, so the piece is similarly constructed. However, the descent is not a simple retrograde of the ascent; rather, Álvarez wants to describe the experience as colored by the setting of the sun, which is symbolized by raising C to C sharp.
