Duo for double bass and piano.
Grade 5+. Approx. duration: a little more than six minutes.
Set includes a piano score and one part.
This single-movement work is divided into three parts: the first, in which the double bass presents a lyrical theme, of intense character, based on an indigenous Venezuelan song; the second is rhythmic and aggressive, in which both instruments carry out a “tour de force” of simultaneous developments; and after a short cadenza in the double bass, there is a recapitulation of the first section.
The documented performance history of this piece includes its inclusion on a program presented on October 30, 1992, at Illinois State University; and on May 26, 1997, it was performed at the Miami-Dade Community College.
In addition, this piece is included on a compact disk, “Con Corda,” that was released in 1994 on the Lyric Classical label.
Luis Gómez-Imbert, double bass; Juan Francisco Sans, piano.
