“A la ninita nana” is a Spanish villancico. It embodies nostalgia with an iconic and beautiful melody that has been heard around the world. Published in 1904, its music was composed by José Ramón Gomis; its text is by Juan Francisco Muñoz y Pabón. Since then, it has been interpreted and recorded by innumerable artists.
Commissioned by the Midwest Double Reed Society, this lyrical and solemn melody was the inspiration to develop a theme and variation piece. The theme, as an introduction, is followed by a continuous journey that explores unfettered possibilities within this traditional melody. The development and expansion of the emblematic sonorous characteristics of the two instruments falls on the extensive melodic, harmonic and rhythmic transformation throughout its constant growth.
