Herrera writes about this work: “Commissioned by a bassoonist friend, I composed ‘Museo en paro’ in 2016. But wanting to get a better idea about the sonority of a bassoon quartet, I listened to some emblematic works for that combination, such as Prokofiev’s ‘Scherzo humoresque’ and Alois Haba’s quartet. But everything that I listened to had the sort of slightly nice and cheerful sound that I actually wanted to avoid. So one day I went to visit the museum, but at the main entrance there hung a large makeshift poster that said, ‘Museum on Strike.’ It was the impression of seeing that sign, the frustration of not being able to visit the museum after such a long time, as well as my personal situation (and that of the country) in relation to the uncertainty of the future, which helped define the character of the piece I wanted to write.”
