This work for unaccompanied bassoon is inspired in the huayno (”Wayñu” in Quechua), which is a popular Andean genre that may have existed even before the Spanish conquest. Based on the pentatonic scale, the typical instruments of the huayno are harp, quena, pan pipe, charango and acoustic guitar. It features a distinctive rhythmic pattern, in which a longer note is followed by two shorter ones.
