Quintet for mezzo-soprano
(Bb3 - A5), flute, clarinet, violin, cello and piano.
Grade 4. Approx. duration: three and a half minutes.
Set includes score and five parts.
Composed in 2014, this work is a setting of the Lord’s Prayer, translated by Cayetano Coll y Toste (1850-1930), in the extinct language of the Taino, who at the time of Christopher Columbus’s exploration inhabited what are now Cuba, Jamaica, Hispaniola (Haiti and the Dominican Republic), Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. The piece was sung by mezzo-soprano Anamer Castrello on a program of Puerto Rican music at the Catholic University of America on January 31, 2016.
