Quintet for flute, bass clarinet, violin, violoncello and piano.
Grade 6. Approx. duration: eight minutes.
Set includes a score and five parts.
Commissioned by the Copiuensamble, this work is based on a story by the Peruvian author José María Aguedas (1911-69) that describes the ceremonies and rites that culminate in a water festival which is celebrated in August in Ayacucho, Peru, when the dry season is nearing its end. During the ceremony the people ask for a productive year, which includes counting on enough rainfall to cover the town’s necessities.
The work was premiered on December 11, 2014 at the Prismus Festival in Santiago, Chile, by the Copiuensamble (Andrea Vargas, flute; Adrían Perry, bass clarinet; Fabián Esparza, violin; Isidora O'Ryan, cello; and Lautaro Silva, piano).
