This collection consists of five pieces for piano by Antonio Alba and René Amengual (Chile), Teresa Carreño (Venezuela), Heriberto López (Mexico), and Henrique Oswald (Brazil). Composed between about 1865 and 1940 these works are typical of the period and are meant to be suggestive of moods, images or events. These pieces are equally appropriate as recital pieces or as didactic works, especially for their value in helping to teach rhythm.
