Jailton de Oliveira
Brazilian composer Jailton de Oliveira was born in Medina, Minas Gerais in 1968. He began his musical studies at the Fundação de Educação Artística in Belo Horizonte. Afterwards, he entered the Curso de Formação Musical at the Federal University of Minas Gerais. Later, he moved to Campinas to pursue a bachelor’s degree in composition at the State University of Campinas (1994-1999). In 2001, he moved to Goiânia, where two years later he obtained a master’s degree in music at the Federal University of Goiás.
He was on the music faculty at Sacred Heart University in Bauru and the State University of Maringá. Currently, he teaches music to more than 600 children in the municipal public schools of Serrania, Minas Gerais. Oliveira has composed over 200 works including choral music, songs, pieces for solo piano, pieces for other solo instruments, chamber and orchestral music, opera, ballet and electroacoustic music. His works have been performed in Brazil, Australia, Mexico, Italy, Russia, Argentina, USA, Spain, Poland and Switzerland. He has attended important festivals, such as the Campos do Jordão International Winter Festival and the Biennial Festival of Brazilian Contemporary Music. He has been cooperating with musicians from several countries in the creation and first performances of new works, mainly chamber music.
