Harold Emert
Curator of eleven Riowinds Festivals, the American (and naturalized Brazilian) oboist and composer Harold Emert was born in New York City where he studied at the Aaron Copland School of Music and the Manhattan School of Music. He played with Maestro Leopold Stokowski and the American Symphony Orchestra before departing the United States for musical adventures abroad.
His career has included stints with the SABC and Saarbrucken Radio orchestras as well as the Israel Philharmonic under Maestro Zubin Mehta. Since 1973 he has resided in Rio de Janeiro, where he has been a member of major orchestras Brazilian orchestras, including the Brazilian Symphony and National Orchestra. Emert has recorded six compact discs. His double concerto for violin and oboe was premiered in 2004 by the Monash University Orchestra in Melbourne, Australia.
