Solo for unaccompanied English horn.
Grade 4-5. Approx. duration: seven minutes.
Set consists of one performance score.
Inspired by certain melodic turns of phrase performed by jazz musician Charlie Parker, Pérez Valero composed this work by gradually transforming this melodic material. Its three contrasting movements taken as a whole are full of lyricism, energy, and at the same time a certain evocative nature. However, the last movement is loaded with the typical rhythmic language of the Caribbean that is diluted throughout the movement by the use of modal scales, large leaps and phrases of uneven lengths. The piece was premiered in 2008 by Ricardo Riveiro during the XV Festival of Latin American Music that was held in Caracas.
Third movement. Recorded live on April 28, 2014. John L. Walker, English horn.
