Solo for unaccompanied flute.
Grade 3-4. Approx. duration: four minutes.
Set consists of a performance score.
According to researchers, chroniclers and historians, Hittova was the last village of the Jirijara, which was an indigenous group that lived in the west central Venezuelan state of Lara (this is also the same state in which Pérez Valero was born). The composition, which is freely based on a Hittova theme, features the recurrent use of fourths and fifths as well as an almost minimalistic reiterative rhythmic structure. At the same time, it is a work of great expressiveness, in that it evokes an ancestral past. Composed in 2002, this work is part of several that the composer prepared while finishing his professional training.
This piece is on the VBODA (Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association) Solo/Ensemble Music List.
Andrés Moreno, flute.
