Unaccompanied bassoon
Grade 4. Approx. duration: four and a half minutes.
Set includes a performance score.
This programmatic work describes the adventure of taking Nikko for a walk around the neighborhood. Nikko was my wife's beautiful and mischievous Border Collie.
The piece is inspired by Richard Strauss's famous symphonic poem, “The Merry Pranks of Till Eulenspiegel,” in that it uses leitmotifs to identify characters and situations and is organized in a rondo structure
The wide range of the bassoon, with its different timbral colors, the contrast of dynamics and tempos, and the profuse use of articulations are the resources used to bring the piece to life and create the different emotional situations of the story.
Walking Nikko is dedicated to all dog lovers who had lived the joyful and sometimes insane experience of taking their beloved furry best friends for a walk every day.
