In “Three Parodies,” three extended techniques join with three different styles of composition. In the first movement, “Milonga for Miranda,” a South American popular dance unites tongue and lip pizzicato with minimalist procedures; “Nocturne” features low-register frullato with impressionism; and in the last movement, “Scherzo in the Form of a Fugue,” the general idea of the fugue is punctuated with beat boxing. The result is a work that combines traditional elements with some of the latest trends in contemporary flute technique.
