Trio for two oboes and English horn.
Grade 4. Approx. duration: 12 minutes.
Set includes a score and three parts.
This trio for two oboes and English horn consists of three dances and a lullaby. The latter is fragmented into four sections; the first section is presented as an introduction while the second and third function as interludes between the dances. The fourth section, heard at the end of the work, is presented in its entirety. This procedure, previously used in works like Mussorgsky's ”Pictures at an Exhibition“ and Rimsky-Korsakov's ”Scheherazade,“ gives the suite a sense of uniformity and coherence and allows the listener to hear it as if it were a story.
From a technical point of view, the instruments are used not only in their more customary roles as expressive melodic instruments, but also, in passages of an almost percussive nature.
