Set includes a piano score and one part.
The thematic material of this work consists of five different melodic motives, each of which appears at least twice throughout the piece, but varying in register, tempo, intensity, texture and character. In this way, the performer is not only compelled to demonstrate the multiple technical and expressive possibilities of the instrument, but also, the score contains solemn and meditative passages, cantabile melodies in its high register, and the vigorous, rhythmically complex phrases that are characteristic of Latin American music. At the same time, the procedure of relying on successive appearances of thematic material, which is associated with the Romantic leitmotif, helps to provide coherence in the delineation of its formal structure. Furthermore, the piano is not limited to a simple role of accompaniment; rather, it intervenes in a musical dialog with the saxophone at significant moments of the composition.
