Young string orchestra (Violin I & II, Viola/Vln. III, Violoncello, String bass, Piano).
Grade 2. Approx. duration: two minutes.
Set includes a score and six parts.
The grade two piece from Venezuela is constructed using a procedure that is typical in Latin American music: the overlapping of ostinatos to create complex rhythmic textures. There are other challenges for young performers in this work, including an extensive use of staccato, open strings, a solo for cello and double bass, a change of time signature, a modulation to the subdominant, a passage with the melody doubled at the third, and the introduction of double stops in the violins in the last measure.
