The fox is an emblematic character in children‘s literature. On the one hand, it’s usually presented as a clever and lying thief; on the other, it is often associated with values such as intelligence, wisdom and familiar love. The psychological depth of this myth, forged by its dual character, is personified in this work for the clarinet. This is an instrument of multiple resources, whose color can vary from threatening in its low register, sweetness in its middle, to stridency in its highest notes, while at the same time its dynamic range runs from almost inaudible pianissimos to very loud fortissimos. This three-movement work uses the cyclical return of thematic material to describe different emotional states, thus taking us from passages of frantic rhythms to others of intense calm.
