Solo for clarinet with piano accompaniment.
Grade 4. Approx. duration: ten and a half minutes.
Set consists of a piano score and one part.
Not unlike the monochrome photographs of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, “Sepia” is intended to be a musical landscape that imagines the memory of nightlife played out in street corners only dimly illuminated by twilight. Composed in three movements, each is dedicated to famous bandoneon players; the first, to Pichucho (Anibal Troilo), the second to Astor (Piazzolla) and the last to Julián (Plaza). Overall, though Núñez uses traditional musical structures, the third movement, based on the lively Argentine genre known as the milonga, features the two instruments sharing patterns and melodies throughout, until finally dancing into the sunset.
